Pyroclasm is inspired by the massive natural forces that created the rock formations of the Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland. Pyroclasm imagines a leap across the sea to the shipyards on the Clyde where similar human forces were employed in the making of ships from steel.
Pyroclasm (translated: broken by fire) explores the idea of the intense heat and pressure needed to create the basalt “rivets” of this natural phenomenon and the similar forces at play in fastening the hulls of ships.
