SYNOPSIS
Cape Heartache is the only American entry in Philip Sava's hugely popular series of exploration novels. Loosely based on a trip he took to the Pacific Northwest as a teenager in 1881, it is generally considered the most frank of his works. The novel is about a cottage he built in a coastal grove of old-growth trees and describes his romance with a young woman who was a descendant of the Nehalem Indian tribe. The theme of leaving the familiar and finding comfort and solace in a new place still resonates today.
