SYNOPSIS
On the outskirts of Clarksdale, Mississippi, at the end of a remote dirt road, stood a small, dilapidated church. It wasn't a place of worship, but rather a place where many sought refuge in times of poverty. According to legend, the structure was carried by hand onto the shoulders of two dozen men into the wild mint field.
The exterior remained plain and unassuming, but inside, stolen neon signs, Christmas lights, and a jukebox donated by the sheriff's son glowed. It was a distinctly worldly place where locals who knew where to find it could chat, socialize, and dance their troubles away by moonlight. They called their ramshackle bandstand Saint Julep, and the tales gathered there paint a picture of this magical place where "smiles were always free and salvation had the unmistakable scent of spearmint."
