Upon entering the Athenaeum, one is struck by the overwhelming aroma of decaying pulp and ink, enveloped in a haze of sun-kissed dust. The scent transports one to midsummer fields and days spent in rolling fields, one's nose buried in the hundreds of papery leaves, grains, and mulchy woods all around.
