Robert Piguet

Robert Piguet was born in 1898 in Yverdon, Switzerland, to a prominent banking family, and showed his passion for fashion design from an early age. At 17, despite strong family opposition, he left Yverdon for Paris, where he apprenticed at the legendary fashion houses of Redfern and Poiret.

It was during his years at Rond-Point that the most enduring aspects of Piguet’s legacy took shape: first as a master who trained the eyes of couture’s most famous names, and second as the man who forever changed the world of fragrance.

But though Piguet’s influence on fashion is undeniable, it is his legacy in perfumery that made him legendary. Collaborating with perfumer Germaine Cellier in the late 40s, it was Piguet’s Bandit and Fracas that marked the turning point to a new era in perfumery. They were said to “exude a particular feeling that was very characteristic of his trademarks: strict observance of good taste, true luxury, aversion to the commonplace, and an innate sense of seduction.”
