In our historical time, I felt the need to offer not a challenging, polarizing creation, but something that comforts the spirit, an invitation to connect with oneself and temporarily forget daily worries.
“Luxe Calme Volupté” is a recurring verse from Baudelaire’s beautiful poem L'Invitation au Voyage:
“Là, everything is beautiful and beautiful,
Luxe, calme et volupté.“
("There everything is only order and beauty,
Luxury, peace and voluptuousness".)
In this poem, Baudelaire invites his lover to accompany him to an exotic place where they can live in peace and quiet, which still reflects his decadent aesthetic.
Luxe Calme Volupté is also the name of an important painting by Henri Matisse—one that is very dear to me—which conveys the same ideas that have inspired my perfumes: the juxtaposition of calm and peaceful character on the one hand, and sensual and decadent elements on the other.
