A powdery rose—symbolizing his secret lover—rounds off the powerful heart of vetiver, the main protagonist of this perfume.
The inspiration behind The Black Knight
The Black Knight is a gothic, intense and sophisticated perfume inspired by the historical figure Giovanni Dalle Bande Nere (John of the Black Bands), an Italian condottiere (mercenary captain) of the Renaissance who belonged to the illustrious Medici family.
This character fascinated me with her stoic commitment to her cause, her loyalty, and her spartan lifestyle—despite her noble origins.
The perfume attempts to portray the atmosphere of a military camp, starting with the smell of wild bushes, then the smoke of the campfire and the smell of horse harness.
The development then delves deeper into the soul of this serious character, revealing the presence of a secret lover, with a powdery rose rounding off the powerful heart of vetiver.
I didn't add any typical animalic notes because the intensity of the vetiver combined with the smokiness of the leather already carries them.
I wanted to combine both the uncompromising and the human aspects of this fascinating personality in a dark, medieval, meditative fragrance.
