Shangri-La

Since I stopped production of 'Shangri La' in 2018, my clients have been asking me to bring it back. I thought I should finally listen and am pleased to announce a remastered version of 'Shangri La'.

The original 'Shangri La' was launched in 2014 as the follow-up to my debut fragrance, 'Moon Bloom'. It was inspired by and named after the fictional land described in James Hilton's 1933 novel "Lost Horizon." Hilton describes Shangri La as a mythical utopia in the Himalayas, an earthly paradise isolated from the rest of the world, where people are almost immortal. I translated the beauty and purity of Shangri La into a contemporary interpretation of a classic chypre perfume.

Chypre fragrances are characterized by the contrast between a fresh citrus accord and a base of wood and oakmoss. The first chypre perfume dates back to 1917, and this fragrance genre has enjoyed enduring popularity ever since.

It takes a good nose to distinguish the 2022 version from the original 'Shangri La'. Perhaps the most striking difference is a lighter and warmer character with a stronger emphasis on floral and spicy notes. Adding more oakmoss wasn't an option, as the original version already contains the maximum amount permitted by regulations.

'Shangri La' is a radiant and airy perfume with a lush and exotic character. The fragrance opens with a bold opening of lemon, orange, and bergamot, followed by a rich bouquet of peach, jasmine, iris, rose, cinnamon, and warm spices. This opulent heart is anchored by an earthy base of vetiver and oakmoss.

I continue to be inspired by mythical themes. In early 2022, I launched a fougère perfume inspired by the natural splendor of Arcadia.
