"He shall suckle from me" - Indra, King of the Gods
An ancient king named Yuvanaswa possessed great wealth, happiness, and many wives. Yet, he had no children, which he desired more than anything. The holy sage Bhrigu agreed to brew the king a magic potion, and Yuvanaswa, who was a very pious man, held a great ritual to appease the gods. The ritual lasted several days; in the end, Yuvanaswa was exhausted and very thirsty, and as he stumbled around, he came across a beautiful pitcher of water and drank it all. PLOT-TWIST. The pitcher contained the magic potion that the great sages had prepared for the queen.
Thus, it happened that the king himself became pregnant. Fortunately for Yuvanaswa, he was held in high regard by the holy powers. And when his pregnancy reached its climax, the seven great sages and even Indra, the king of the gods, joined him and cut a hole in the king's thigh to deliver the little boy. But a new problem arose: the king could not nurse his child. Indra cut his thumb, and since he was a god, life-giving nectar flowed in his veins instead of blood. So he let the boy suckle from his thumb and proclaimed: "Mandhata," and that was the name of the new king who would conquer the entire earth.
And that is why babies, born with the memory of their divine ancestors, still suck their thumb.
